Translation from German
[edit]There are a number of terms in the German original which are not explained or wikilinked, but would not necessarily be known to a modern German speaker, and are a little difficult to translate into comprehensible English. I've listed some below so that they can be altered if better equivalents can be found.
- Apotheker: in view of the date, I've used "apothecary" rather than the modern "pharmacist".
- Ratsapotheker: the sense is, I think, government-approved, chartered apothecary. I've used the term "official apothecary", is there a better one?
- Tabakspinner und Krämer: a "Tabakspinner" is one who cuts up tobacco for use in pipes; "Kraemer" is shop-keeper. I've used "tobacconist" as a simple English translation.
- Rektorschule: as I'm not sure (nor are any of the German-speakers I asked) exactly what this is, I've just said "school".
- Provisor: this is unhelpfully linked in the German original to a disambiguation page. The apothecary sense is of someone who manages a pharmacy/apothecary's business for someone else.
- Zweiter Bürgermeister, Erster Bürgermeister: literally "Second Mayor" and "First Mayor"; perhaps "Vice-Mayor" and "Mayor"?
As of now, the article needs more wikilinks. Peter coxhead (talk) 20:41, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
